Blog Action Day- Poverty

The activity for the stubc08 this week is something called Blog Action Day, where a whole bunch of people blog about the same topic. The topic this week is Poverty, and I chose to create a photo story about poverty- I actually did a different story for every photo. (Sorry I didn’t get it done sooner, My computer was messed up)

As he stares into the sky, he’s praying for God to bring his mother back to him. Where is she? Why hasn’t she come back for me? he thinks, a tear running down his cheek.

He stands on the street corner, wondering where his next meal will come from. He hasn’t showered for days, and as people walk past him, they wrinkle their noses in disgust. All he wants is something to eat, a place to stay when the city gets dark and he’s all alone. But no one even gives him a second glance. They’re too busy, someonme else will help him.

In his sleep he is at peace. He doesn’t have to think about where he will sleep the next day, or what he will do for food. He doesn’t have to see all the judgemental glances or hear all the gossipping whisperers. He’ll have to deal with those things when he wakes up, but for now he just lays there, comfortable for a moment in such an uncomfortable world.

He sleeps on the streets, collecting charity from people who care enough to give him even a few coins. Sometimes he’ll even collect enough money to buy himself some dinner tonight.

What a magnificent photo story about poverty. You certainly captured the what the person in each picture might be feeling. Keep up the great work.

Mallorie, that’s really empathetic commenting – very thought provoking. The way you have put yourself into the shoes of the people in these photos makes them seem more real than they may otherwise have appeared to us. Great work!
I will direct my students to your work – this is a post that needs to be shared.

Hi Mallorie. Your choice of photos and your ’story’ to go with them is very effective and moving. Your blog post will certainly make people stop and think.

Those are really powerful stories and photos of the effect of poverty on people. Well done. It’s really sad to think of how many people live in poverty.

Thanks for dropping past The Edublogger. Blogging also makes me think a lot more on a wide range of topics. I gain from writing posts, reading the comments on my posts and writing comments on other people’s posts.

Often it is the simplest of topics that will make me stop and ponder. Like the difference between vegetables and fruit, parkways and driveways, and off course let’s not forget those riddles the others have tricked me with.

Your and my secret (I also leave it to the last minute to write my posts).

    Mallorie,
This is a powerful and impressive post. Your vignettes show you are an observer, a thinker. I am glad there are people like you noticing what is happening on the edge of vision.

Impressive! I was deeply cut with how sad and miserable some of those people looked. I loved every word you wrote, you are very talented and creative Mallorie!
Looking at these stories, and picturs… I am so surprised!! You should be really proud of your effort. You’ve done a wonderful thing.
My favourite one is definitely the one where the guy is sleeping on the road. I love how you described everything… I agree, the world is just uncomfortable, but for now he lays in peace.
    Stay in Touch

A very touching post and its impressive how you described each picture. The one that touched me the most was the first one where the kid looks up in the sky and prays to bring back her mom. Overall a very impressive post.
